Call for participants – Unlocking Doors to Recognition: Seminar on recognition of youth work and non-formal learning

Youth workers and organisations interested in strengthening the recognition of youth work and non-formal learning are invited to apply for the seminar “Unlocking Doors to Recognition”, taking place from 8–12 June 2026 in Bar, Montenegro.

The seminar will bring together 25 participants from Erasmus+ Programme countries and the Western Balkans to explore how youth work and non-formal learning can gain greater recognition in communities, organisations, and policy environments. The event is organised by SALTO South East Europe Resource Centre and SALTO Training and Cooperation Resource Centre.

Supporting stronger recognition of youth work

Although important progress has been made across Europe, particularly at policy level, recognition of youth work still varies widely between countries and regions. Grassroots organisations and youth workers play a key role in strengthening recognition locally, raising awareness of the value of youth work and the learning outcomes of young people.

This seminar will support participants in understanding recognition frameworks and developing practical strategies to promote recognition of youth work and non-formal and informal learning in their own contexts.

What will participants gain

During the three-day programme, participants will:

  • Explore key concepts and European developments related to recognition of youth work and non-formal learning
  • Exchange experiences about the state of recognition in their countries and learn from inspiring practices across Europe
  • Identify challenges and solutions to advancing recognition locally
  • Develop practical strategies and action plans in peer “recognition teams” to strengthen recognition in their organisations and communities

To support implementation of these ideas, participants will receive online follow-up support, including a joint meeting scheduled for 18 September 2026.

Who can apply

The seminar is open to youth workers representing organisations active in grassroots youth work who:

  • Have an interest in recognition of youth work and learning
  • Can bring the seminar outcomes back to their organisation
  • Are committed to following up on the developed action plans
  • Are able to work in English
