The European Commission has put forward a proposal for a strengthened Erasmus+ programme for the period 2028-2034. The proposed programme will support learning mobility from an early age and capacity building in education, training, youth and sport.
Erasmus+ is a lasting EU success story, with nearly 40 years of impact on the personal and professional growth of over 16 million people.
It helps people learn and develop critical thinking, resilience, and improve academic performance. Participants consistently show better results than those who have not taken part in learning mobilities or exchanges – a positive impact that Erasmus+ will continue to foster in the years to come.
Proposed budget
The Commission proposes a budget of €40.8 billion, compared to €26.2 billion for 2021-2027. This would be complemented with budget from the EU’s Global Europe funding programme.
A reinforced Erasmus+ programme will be the backbone of the Union of Skills. Education mobility, solidarity and inclusiveness will remain the core of the programme.
European Solidarity Corps
The proposal would extend the programme’s scope to also cover volunteering, including in support of humanitarian aid operations. These opportunities are currently part of the European Solidarity Corps.
This would create a one-stop-shop for all EU funded youth projects and initiatives, helping make these opportunities more accessible and inclusive.
